Located just north of the Green Lake neighborhood, and within easy driving distance of the
University District,
Downtown Seattle and
the major highways and back roads, the Northgate neighborhood offers convenient Seattle living.
Northgate residents live near shopping history.
Opened on April 21,
1950, Northgate
was America’s first regional shopping
center defined as a
"mall".
At the time, this
area northeast of Green Lake and west of Sand Point was
semi-rural, with a
scattering of homes,
greenhouses and
small farms. The
mall site was chosen
for
its easy access to
the canal bridges
and main roads.
Today, the Northgate area still features easy access, so there’s
always a quick
traffic-free route.
Since the 50’s the Northgate neighborhood has grown into a mixture of retail,
multi-family and
single family units.
Further north, of the mall, near N 130th is
Northacres Park. This 20-acre park, surrounded by a
fir forest
contains a picnic
area, two ball
fields, a play area
for
children, a wading
pool and a dog
off-leash area. If
you travel still
further north,
you can enjoy golf
at the 9-hole
or
18-hole courses at
beautiful Jackson
Park—the driest
public course in the
city of Seattle.
Northgate remains one of the most affordable neighborhoods in Seattle, and is a great choice for first-time buyers.
