The Green Lake neighborhood is named after its most prominent feature, a
lovely nearly-one-mile wide lake,
surrounded by hundreds of species of
trees and plants.
Geologists
say that
Green
Lake formed 50,000 years ago from a vast glacial ice sheet.
Today, its
expanse of
water and green space in the center of a
popular urban neighborhood
draws thousands of people daily from all
over the city. The 2.8 mile trail that
circles the lake is a
great place to jog, stroll, bike,
roller-blade, dog walk, stroller push
or people watch. You
can enjoy sports
on the water too, such as swimming,
canoeing, kayaking and rowing. You can
fish, watch the ducks
or just relax and enjoy a picnic on
the grass. The park also features
tennis courts, a basketball court, a
baseball diamond, lighted soccer fields,
a putt-putt golf course, an indoor pool and a lively community center.
The Green Lake community is mostly single-family
units, but at the east side of the
neighborhood, in the urban village area, you’ll also find
apartments and multi-family housing.
The Green Lake
area is surrounded by four popular
neighborhoods— Greenwood/Phinney Ridge to the west,
Wallingford and Freemont to the south, Ravenna and the University
District to the east and Maple Leaf to
the north.
With so much fun only minutes away, it’s
no wonder that everyone wants to live
near this city park. As result house
values have risen sharply.
